BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION

Gluteal Augmentation

With the growing popularity of generously curved backsides, the demand for augmenting the size and shape of the buttocks has grown considerably. There are three ways that cosmetic surgeons increase the size, and contour the shape of the buttocks

Introduction
  • Buttock implants enhance the size and shape of the upper and outer parts of the buttocks and give great projection.
  • Augment the buttock with fat grafting. This is commonly known as a Brazilian Butt lift (BBL). Typically, the BBL procedure is performed by liposuctioning the hips and waist and using the fat removed from these areas to inject into the buttock area for enhancement. The fat can be removed from other areas as well.
  • While a Brazilian Butt Lift creates a fully-rounded curvaceous appearance to the bottom of the buttocks, a formal or traditional skin excision Butt Lift, like a Tummy Tuck, involves removing excess skin and fat to enhance the appearance of the waist, hips, and back of the thighs

The method that is most appropriate will be determined by your cosmetic surgeon according to your aesthetic goals.

BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION procedure

  • A Butt Lift enhances the appearance of the waist, hips, and back of the thighs by removing excess skin and fat
  • Using fat harvested from other areas of the body, the Brazilian Butt Lift, creates a fully-rounded curvaceous appearance to the bottom of the buttocks.
  • Using implants, buttock implants alter the size and shape of the upper and outer buttocks
  • Enhancing the appearance with buttock augmentation can improve self-confidence.

Procedure Description for Buttock Implant

  • Anesthesia is administered (this procedure may be done under local or general anesthesia).
  • Incisions are made along the length of the upper arm from the underarm to just above the elbow either along the inside of the arm, or along the back of the arm. The incision may need to be extended to the axilla (underarm) in many cases. This helps to resect more skin and create a less visible scar.
  • Anesthesia is administered.
  • An incision is made at the midline of the buttocks.
  • A solid silicone implant is inserted and positioned between the gluteal muscle and fat, or within the gluteal muscle of each buttock.
  • Placement of the implants is checked for symmetry.
  • The incisions are closed with stitches that dissolve.
  • A bandage and temporary drains will be placed.

Procedure Description for Brazilian Butt Lift

  • Anesthetic is administered.
  • Small incisions are made in the areas where fat will be extracted and injected.
  • During liposuction, a thin, hollow tube, called a cannula, will be used to suction excess fat.
  • The extracted fat is prepared for reinjection.
  • Another cannula will be used to inject the purified fat from syringes into the buttocks.
  • The incisions are closed with sutures.
  • Drains will be inserted.
  • After the fat transfer has been completed, the results are immediately apparent although it may be 6 months to a year before the results are final.

Procedure Description for Buttock Lift Surgery

  • Anesthesia is administered.
  • An incision is made from hip to hip along the lower back. Depending on individual circumstances, additional incisions may be made in the hips, groin, or under the buttock cheeks.
  • The excess skin is pulled up to lift the buttocks and outer thighs and then removed.
  • Liposuction may be used to create the desired shape.
  • The incisions are closed with sutures.
  • Temporary drains are inserted.
  • It is important to follow your cosmetic surgeon’s instructions to avoid complications and ensure the best outcome.
  • You will have drains during the immediate recovery period which will be removed.
  • You will need to wear a compression garment as you heal.
  • Follow instructions about putting pressure on the buttocks closely
