DENTAL CROWN & IMPLANT

Dental Implants

Dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement method that closely resembles natural teeth. Not only is the top portion replaced but also the root that securely holds the tooth in place.
The ‘root’ is made of titanium and is designed to fuse to jaw bone as a secure foundation. Dental implants often look, feel and function like natural teeth.
Dental implants can often be used to replace a single tooth, several teeth, all of your missing teeth or help retain bridges and dentures.

Introduction

Dental implants are becoming one of the more popular types of dental procedures for tooth replacement. They offer a more comfortable, natural-feeling, and real-looking option for missing teeth than some other types of dental care options. Bridges, dentures, and partials all require adjustment to speak properly. They also require more maintenance and repair than dental implants need.

This restorative procedure is one of the most popular at our dental office. However, before you can get a dental implant procedure, you must first qualify as an ideal candidate. Generally speaking, a good candidate for dental implants is in good physical health. They also possess sufficient bone structure in their jaw to support a small titanium post.

How long does the process take?

The entire procedure to receive dental implants generally takes between three and six months. After the dentist implants the titanium studs, he will place a temporary cap, crown, or denture over the implant for cosmetic purposes.

It takes between three to six months for the studs to integrate completely into the bone. During this time, the bone and gums are healing and will feel a little sore.

After your mouth heals, the dentist will replace the temporary caps, crowns, or dentures with permanent ones. Then patients are free to go about their daily activities as if the implants were their own natural teeth.

Do you offer dental sedation?

We offer patients that need dental implants a pleasant experience with the use of oral sedatives. This type of sedation, also called “twilight” sedation, enables patients to feel completely relaxed and pain-free while still in control of their bodies. You will need to have someone drive you to and from the appointment if you elect to use dental sedation.

What are tooth implants?

The most common way to use a dental implant is to replace an individual missing tooth. But, dental implants can also anchor a bridge that will replace multiple teeth. Also, they can support dentures to hold them firmly in place and prevent slippage, or moving around when you talk or chew.Dental implants consist of three parts:A Titanium Post: Your dentist or oral surgeon surgically places this post into your jaw bone to replace the tooth root.A Titanium Abutment or Container: This piece sits just below the gum line and will anchor the new tooth crown to the dental implant.

A Ceramic Crown: This dental crown is strong, a tooth-colored material, and looks and feels like your own real tooth.

You will not see any metal in the mouth with dental implants. Plus, dental implants feel and function like real teeth. With a proper oral health routine and dental care, your implant is a perfect long-term restoration.

Notes

They’re natural. When properly placed, the dental implant will fuse to the bone and become a natural part of your jaw.

It isn’t removable. Dental implants bond with living bone, so you can expect to eat, smile, talk and brush normally.

Superior function. A removable denture will only support 5% or 10% of your chewing biting force. Dental implants allow you to chew normally.

Long-lasting. Dental implants have a documented success rate of more than 97%. They will last you for many years, far beyond the life span of a bridge or denture.

Ultimate stability. A dental implant won’t drift or is more like a removable denture.

Conservative restoration. With a dental implant, the dentist doesn’t need to cut down adjacent teeth or use them to support a replacement tooth (like with a bridge).
