UNDER ARM SWEAT REDUCTION

Sweat reduction treatment – What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. However, this excess sweating is not related to normal factors such as eating spicy foods, heat, or exercise. It is a medical condition that causes the nerve that is responsible for sweating to become overactive and can cause quite a bit of discomfort and disruption in someone’s life. In some cases, patients experience severe sweating episodes where the sweat comes through their clothes.

Introduction

There is some minor evidence that hyperhidrosis is related to certain mental health problems including anxiety. Subsequently, the patient’s medical history may also point to mental health problems caused by hyperhidrosis.

While sweat reduction may be achieved by using over-the-counter treatments and the right deodorant to combat body odour, you may require professional treatment to resolve your symptoms.

What causes excessive sweating?

  • Treating excessive sweating often begins by looking at the cause. After all, treatment for hyperhidrosis does depend in the large part of the exact cause. Once this is determined, the most applicable treatment option can be advised to the patient. One of the main forms of excessive sweating is focal hyperhidrosis. This is a condition on its own and does not necessarily have any underlying medical condition contributing the problem.

Primary hyperhidrosis can manifest itself in many ways. It can lead to excessive underarm sweating, but also excessive sweating of the hands and feet. Most primary forms of hyperhidrosis are caused by an overreaction of the sweat glands.

Compensatory sweating is another form of hyperhidrosis that can be encountered by patients. This particular type of hyperhidrosis is caused by ETS surgery and commonly accompanied by symptoms such as excessive sweating on the back, chest, abdomen, face, and buttocks.

Primary axillary hyperhidrosis is another medical condition that could explain excessive sweating. Interestingly enough, it is estimated that approximately 3% of the population suffer from this particular condition. Most sufferers encounter the conditioner in their childhood, although the condition starting later in adulthood is possible too. This particular form of hyperhidrosis can be caused by genetics, but also exposure to high levels of stress.

Unfortunately, the cause can be difficult to pinpoint at times, as excessive sweating can occur with no apparent reason.

How hyperhidrosis can help reduce sweating

  • This treatment can successfully help to minimise the amount of sweat produced by the sweat glands to reduce underarm sweat and control the embarrassing effects of excessive sweating. Read on to discover how the treatment can help:

    Hyperhidrosis

This treatment uses micro-fine injectables, including muscle relaxants, to greatly reduce underarm sweating. This type of procedure requires very little, if any, downtime. You may feel a little sore for a few days after the treatment.

    BENEFITS OF HYPERHIDROSIS

Sweating is the body’s natural response to an increase in body temperature and works to cool our body down so that we don’t overheat. When a person sweats profusely, it may be the result of hyperhidrosis. When people experience this condition, the sympathetic nerve that controls sweating becomes oversensitive and causes more sweating than is considered normal. An excessive sweating treatment has two major benefits:

What is involved in sweat reduction treatment?

  • There are a wide variety of treatments available for sweat reduction. If you want to treat hyperhidrosis, it is always recommended to seek an initial consultation with your GP or a specialist, who can lay out the treatments for you. Some treatments to reduce sweating are more long term than others, so it is a good idea to weigh up the options.Sweat reduction treatment can involve the use of medicine, treatment with targeted electrical currents, anti-wrinkle injections, and surgical procedures to remove the sweat glands.

At our Skin Clinics, we offer effective treatments to reduce excessive sweating.

What areas can be treated for hyperhidrosis?

Cosmetic injections are commonly used to treat excessive sweating of the underarms. However, these injections can be used in a variety of areas, depending on the area in question.

The type of treatment you have can also be subject to the cause and how effective that treatment would be in the area. For example, cosmetic injections have proven to be effective for underarm excessive sweating, but so has surgery. For patients, weighing up the pros and cons with a specialist and their GP is advised.

Notes

What to expect after treatment?

Patients who have the injections can resume their normal activities immediately. Please note that it can take a couple of days for sweating to stop in the treated area. For most patients, it takes two weeks for the treatment to take full effects.

If a patient chooses cosmetic injections to treat hyperhidrosis, then patients must consider that treatments will have to be repeated in the future. The injected compound gets broken down by the body over time, so repeated treatment is necessary in most cases.

OPTIMISING YOUR RESULTS

To maximise the benefits of your hyperhidrosis treatments, your will talk you through the correct aftercare steps to maintain your results while the area heals. Generally, this will include:

  1. Not applying deodorant until the morning after the procedure
  2. Not rubbing or massaging the area
  3. Not having any further treatments in the area for the next 24 hours
  4. Not going to the gym or undertaking any strenuous activity within the next 48 hours.

Avoid having any laser treatment or electrical beauty treatments on the area for at least a week after hyperhidrosis. You may experience sweating for up to 2 weeks after treatment before you see best results.
