Spider veins are veins that appear close to the surface of the skin, usually on the legs, ankles, and sometimes on the face. They are small web or net-like clusters and are blue, red, and or purple, a sharp contrast to the skin.
Introduction
It is important to distinguish between spider veins and varicose veins. Varicose veins bulge at the surface, cause pain, and present a medical problem and should be addressed separately. In most cases, spider veins are usually purely cosmetic, and can be easily eliminated by your cosmetic surgeon.
The modern process of removing spider veins is quick and painless, and can be done as an outpatient in the office.
Who Is a Candidate for Spider Vein Treatment?
- A person who is in good physical condition
- A person who has spider veins visible on the legs and or face
- A person who does not have any blood disorders or history of blood clots
Who Is Not a Candidate for Spider Vein Treatment?
- A woman who is pregnant
- A person who has a history of blood clotting or vein disease
- A person who has significant health concerns, such as heart disease or difficulties healing
SPIDER VEIN TREATMENT procedure
- After the spider veins have been treated, they will disintegrate and be absorbed by the body.
- The cosmetic surgeon will locate the spider vein and insert a detergent solution with a microneedle that will close the vein.
- Alternatively, a cosmetic surgeon can produce the same results with a laser, which may be preferable on the ankles and with very small spider veins.
- After the procedure, there is no pain or adverse effects.
- It is very important that you follow your cosmetic surgeon’s instructions.
- In the days and weeks following the treatment, you may be asked to wear compression stockings to enhance blood flow and prevent discoloration in the treated areas.
- If you experience any redness, it will subside within a few days or weeks.
